A Dream to be Fulfilled

In fewer than thirty-six hours at the time of writing, one of my life's dreams will see it's first fulfillment.Wow. It's almost hard to believe that my dream and hope for tens years will finally see fulfillment. On Sunday, February 26, I have my first speaking event as an official Answers in Genesis speaker.

This event, at a Church of the Brethren, will not be an easy one. It was the first event that AiG scheduled for me since approving me as a speaker. What makes it tough is that I won't speak just once but four times in the same church! AiG originally told me that they would be kinder and not through me right into speaking but slowly introduce me by single-talk churches and a some speaking with other AiG speakers (such as Dr. Jason Lisle, Carl Kerby, Dr. Terry Mortenson, Mike Riddle, or Bodie Hodge). I even remember a particular event scheduler saying, "No, we won't throw you right in. We'll be nicer than that." Well, here goes Daniel into the "lions' den." (Please, no further jokes like that, I get annoyed by those after hearing them so much.)

Shortly after my initial meetings with AiG's outreach leadership, one of the event schedulers came to me and asked, "Daniel, can you have two talks ready in about three months?"

"Yes," I replied.

He continued, "Can you have four talks ready in about three months?"

To that question, I hesitated. When I asked how the church was getting me, this event scheduler said, "They requested an AiG speaker, and I just asked, 'How about our newest speaker, Daniel Lewis?'" After a couple days of thought and prayer, my answer came back, "I think that I can do it." Now, that day is upon me.

I decided to go safe and "official" in my talks. My selection is "The Relevance of Genesis" (why it's important to believe Genesis as accurate, literal history), "Six Literal Days or Millions of Years?" (an exegetical look at the days of creation and if "millions of years" can fit into the Bible), "Fossils and the Flood" (explaining fossils and examining the evidence and description of Noah's Flood), and "Answers to the Most-Asked Questions" (an organized Q&A to address the origin of "races," where Cain got his wife, biological evolution and natural selection, dinosaurs and the Bible, and the reason that we have death and suffering).

Each talk is supposed to be about an hour long (there are already fifteen minute breaks between sessions).

I write all of this because I want your support in prayer. There is no way that I can do anything effective unless my labor is covered in prayer for God's guidance.

Last Sunday was a very, very special time for me as I knelt in my pastor's office, surrounded by the Godly men of my church's leadership, and I was bathed in their prayers. The weight of all of their hands upon me pushed me even farther to my knees, and I realized that is how God works. The effectual, fervent prayer of His children upon a person pushes them into more humility and more of God. This is exactly what I felt last Sunday. Less of me, more of God.

So please, please pray with me. Post a comment here or email me if you will promise to pray during one of my talks, especially the first talk that starts at 10:45.

There are some humorous things about this event, but I'll save those for my debriefing post on Sunday or Monday.

Thank you so much for praying! It means a lot to me.
