I've come a long way with Answers in Genesis. I was hired as a part-time graphic artist in February, 2001; I was given a full-time position as a speaker support specialist nine months later; then I was moved into a presentation designer; AiG asked me to speak at the 2004 Creation College; and now I'm lead presentation designer & coordinator. But God isn't done moving me yet.
This Tuesday, November 15, I have the wonderful honor of presentation my own "Relevance of Genesis" talk for Ken Ham and the AiG speaker review team as a form of an interview to determine my potential as a full-time creation speaker.
This is not a recent decision for me. Even several years ago, before I started working for AiG, I felt God calling me into ministry and my heart had a desire to help Christians return to the authority of the Word of God through the Genesis message. I remember thinking that graphic design could be my way of getting into AiG, and then God would prepare me for eventual speaking.
Last year, I scheduled an appointment with Ken to ask about what I could do to become a speaker. But due to a scheduling conflict, I met with one of AiG's other leadership. The gentleman was very encouraging, but gave some advice that I really didn't want to hear because it didn't seem the way that God was leading. I decided to just wait on the Lord and prepare while I wait.
In September, I had a personal meeting with Ken in which I expressed my desires and he was very encouraging. His basic response was, "I've seen that you have good potential. Prepare your talk, and I'll be there." It's only now that our schedules align enough for this to happen.
Often, wannabe-speakers tend to copy Ken's talks almost verbatim. But I'm quite excited with my presentation because it has my own unique approach and several of my own original points.
I've given the "Relevance of Genesis" talk a couple times before, but I decided to start completely from scratch this time. It's been a struggle to make certain transitions, but I think that I now have a talk ready to present.
I ordered a new notebook computer a couple weeks ago, but in accordance with Murphy's Law, it won't be delivered until after my presentation—two hours after! But instead of using PowerPoint on the cool computer that's coming, AiG is letting me borrow a 12" PowerBook PC for my talk. I really like Keynote more than PowerPoint, and Keynote is actually what I'll end up using!
It's funny to see that I'm using AiG products that I made to help me prepare my talk. Tools for Teaching, Creation College 2004 resource CD-ROM, and Presentation Library (internal use only) are all major resources to my presentation.
Something cool in all of this is that my talk is just a few days away from my four-year, full-time anniversary with AiG.
Please pray for me as I prepare, and especially as I give my presentation on Tuesday at noon.
