I always try to find new CDs by first checking my local library. My latest visit sent me with Gorky Park soundtrack by James Horner. I usually like his music, but this CD is not one I would buy as a whole album.
The majority of the tracks are very mystical or tense with heavy backbeats. Only three tracks stood out as okay.
"Irina's Theme" is very mystical in its beginnings and then takes a slight more melodic, though still quite subdued turn.
"Airport Farewell" follows a similar flow, but just a little more airy and melodic at its climax, but still very slow, especially the end that seems to never end.
"Releasing the Sables / End Titles" at first sounds to further push one of Horner's popular actions: worthless soundtrack, but great credits music (Ransom is a perfect example of this). However, about a quarter of the way into the track and it erupts into heavy backbeat, tense music that gives me a headache.
This is one soundtrack that I will never plan on buying.
